| What's Book DB
Book DB is a far-reaching international project which promotes the diffusion of bibliographical information within the book publishing world.
Book DB is the result of pooled experiences and objectives from the producers of the worlds most important book databases (Whitaker for BookBank in Great Britain, Informazioni Editoriali for Alice in Italy, Electre for Electre database in France) that are also the collectors of data and the managers of the ISBN network in their country.
Book DB is the first service of its kind to bring together bibliographic databases in different languages. In fact, a single web address (and in the near future a single log-in) allows the user to access information about books in print in France, UK and Italy.
In the future, a single interface will be used to access all the databases.
Thanks to an agreement between the project producers, users of the different databases will qualify for special rates when they sign up for more than one of them.
On-line access guarantees that the information is always up-to-date: this being a very important feature for a bibliographic database which deals with the ever-changing book market.
The partner authors of this first phase of the Book DB project are working on expanding the base of contributors and have a strong will to include further bibliographic data producers in the project.
Users can sign up for one or more of the databases available on Book DB.
At present, the Web versions of Electre and Alice are not available. However, it is possible to subscribe to the CD-ROM versions of these products: the same special rates as for the on-line versions apply.
